Distrust of mankind.

What happens when a person feels betrayed after realizing that their personal concept of morality isn't compatible with mankind, yet continues to cling to it as if they were in denial. Basically, many have been living in a Disney-esque bubble all their lives, only to be thrown into the real world with real problems.
Misanthropes, people who subscribe to misanthropy, are frequently people who simply feel betrayed after realizing that their happy-sounding belief that is incompatible with humanity.

USA/Canada/Australia: Normally offensive way of referring to people of East Asian descent. The term "Asian" is normally used to refer exclusively to them.
UK (and most places elsewhere): Normal, politically correct way of referring to people of East Asian descent. In Britain, the term Asian usually refers to people of South Asian descent (i.e. Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, etc.)
(Imagine a Cambodian named Matt moved in next door.)
USA:

American 1: "Hey! Did you meet our new neighbor Matt?"
American 2: "You mean that oriental guy?"
American 1: "Woah man! What do you have against Asians?"

UK:
British 1: "Hey, did you meet the new neighbour? His name is Matt."
British 2: "Is he the new oriental guy who moved in to that house?"
British 1: "Yep. He's from Cambodia. He's quite nice."

The first year of the new millennium and the beginning of the 2000s.

Basically just the 1990s and the last good, stable year.
George Bush had no power yet, the Twin Towers were still standing, 2D graphics were still accepted, etc.
The Y2K problem was finally over and practically no computers crashed.
2000 is the year we thought that computers would crash but it didn't.
