A notoriously crappy type of 80's rock band, with several notable exceptions. Distinguishing characteristics are big hairdoes (hence the name), constantly changing drummers, and a band name that is either nonsensical or based on a location.

A group of men in a rock band, each with an obsenely large mane that is typically wavy and always past the shoulders. The men in the band (most formed in or around 1980) bang their heads so their hair flies all over and they sing rock songs about women and love in multi-part harmony. In addition, it is customary to wear either extremely tight pants or similarly tight stone-washed cut-off jeans when part of a hair band.

n., adj., A rock band from the eighties whose members had long hair, which they teased up with hair-spray to make themselves out to be rebels and distinctive. The music tried to be hard and badass, but was harmless. This is sometimes used as a disparaging description, much like boy band is used today.

A type of hard rock band from the 1980s made up of musicians who wore strange leather clothing, ripped jeans, and had tall blowdried womanly hair (often blond). These bands played hard rocking music with fast guitar solos, but also sang love ballads. Hairband music was heavy but it was produced with such a glossy sheen that it wasn't too hard on the ears. Hairbands died around 1990, and some would say they ere killed by Kurt Cobain and grunge.
